Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Scholarship

The "Equity, Diversity & Inclusion" Scholarship is an award designed to promote and support diversity within the sport of hockey. This scholarship aims to provide opportunities for individuals from underrepresented or marginalized backgrounds to pursue their passion for hockey and access higher education while contributing to a more inclusive and equitable hockey community.

It is awarded to an athlete of a historically excluded community, based on race, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, ability differences, socioeconomic status, etc., who has shown leadership and contributions to the sport of hockey with a focus on equity, inclusion, diversity and advocacy.  It seeks to create a more diverse and representative hockey community at all levels.

While a passion for hockey is a key component, applicants are generally required to maintain a certain level of academic achievement to be eligible for the scholarship. This ensures that recipients are dedicated both to their education and their involvement in the sport.  Candidates are evaluated based on their contributions to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion within the hockey community such as mentoring, coaching, volunteering, or advocating for underrepresented groups in the sport.

The scholarship program serves as a means to promote the values of diversity, equity, and inclusion within the larger hockey community. By supporting individuals who actively contribute to these values, the program helps create a more welcoming and respectful environment for everyone involved and aims to foster a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive future for the world of hockey.
